Jon & Kate + 8

I finally got the chance to watch Jon and Kate last night. I have to DVR it since Jayson won't watch it and we are seldom home when it comes on. So, last night they take all the kids to Kmart and have them pick out 3 toys to take to the children of St. Jude's. They are trying to teach the kids that it is better to give than to receive. The whole episode was focused on that idea and them going to St. Jude's.

The children of St. Jude's are very sick with various types of cancer. As I was watching, there was a part that really touched me. There is a mom and dad holding their sick child and saying that they are the lucky ones. They are the lucky ones because they get it. They get what life is about. They really understand that it is about making the most of every single day and living it to its fullest.

I struggle sometimes with what we have been through with brother and question why did this have to happen to him. I know that everything happens for a reason, it does not happen by chance or luck. There is a plan and reason.

Those parents really put into words what I have learned and felt over the past 3 years and want to try and show others through my actions. I want to make the most of every day and make a difference. It will not happen by sitting in the house, worrying about laundry, or trying to find that perfect Christmas present.

So, needless to say that it really inspired me. I have on my calender to call Jim Thorpe today and see what needs they have for volunteers especially now as I am sure there are going to be spinal cord patients in the hospital next Thursday.

I might have been young, but I remember clearly what it is like to spend the holidays at the hospital. I did when I was around 5 with my grandpa and again around 8 with Linda. I know that there are other aspects that make the holidays especially hard for some.

I am one of the lucky ones and cant wait to see what will happen this next week. I know that door's will be opened and I will do my best to see those opportunities when they come.
